Frequently Asked Questions about Online Courses
Login to your UMD online courses
The following contains very important information regarding your School of Management (SOM) online courses, including online graduate courses and classroom courses with online materials.
Course Availability:
Your Blackboard account is automatically updated with the courses in which you are registered. You will have access to your courses effective the first day of classes for that semester. (If you are not sure of this date, please check the University of Michigan – Dearborn Academic Calendar at http://www.umd.umich.edu/rr_academic-calendar/.) You will be able to enter the system prior to that, but will not be able to access your courses.
If you have already registered for your courses they will be available the first day of the semester. Once the semester starts there will be up to a one day delay between when you register for a course and when you will be able to access it, so register soon.
Course Access:
The login page for Blackboard CE6 is http://blackboard.umd.umich.edu. Your login credentials for Blackboard are your UMID (8-digit ID) and your UM Connect PIN (the 6-digit PIN you use to view grades, register for classes, etc.). Your Blackboard login credentials will always be the same as your UM Connect login credentials. If you wish to change this PIN, you must change it through UM Connect and then Blackboard will change it accordingly.

Bookmarking The Login Page:
To bookmark the above login page, you will need to perform the following extra step. Once you arrive at the login page, add it to your bookmarks (Mozilla) or favorites (Internet Explorer) as usual. You may notice that the actual URL of the login page is not the same as the one you typed in. This is because the URL above allows you to skip a step in the login process of choosing which school you are coming from. If you don't do anything more to the bookmark/favorite you just created, you will have to go through this extra page. To avoid it, go to Manage Bookmarks or Organize Favorites, find the newly created bookmark/favorite, right-click on the link, select Properties from the menu, and then type in the http://blackboard.umd.umich.edu URL to replace the one that is shown. Close the pop-up windows and you should be all set.
My Blackboard:
Once you login, you will see your My Blackboard screen. In Blackboard, courses are no longer categorized by Term (semester), but are simply listed alphabetically. The convention used in the course listing is that of COURSE – SECTION, where COURSE is the title of the course and SECTION is the combination of the 6-digit semester code and 3-digit section number.
